Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi was born
on March 21. 1923 in Chindwara,
India. She was born with her
realization and knew from a young
age that she had a unique gift which
had to be made available to all
people. As a girl, Shri Mataji was
a youth leader in Mahatma Gandhi`s
freedom movement. Gandhi often
consulted her on spiritual questions.
She later studied medicine at a
Christian Medical College in Lahore.
She created a method , called
Sahaja Yoga, which awakens in us
the power to become enlightened
and to give enlightnment to others.
Since 1970 she has visited many
countries to give people around the
world the experience of
self-realization. Today Sahajay Yoga
has spread to over 95 countries.

Shri Mataji offers to people of every
background, age and race their
enlightenment. She insists that no
money can be charged for divine work.
She believes global freedom, peace
and righteousness is the destiny of
humanity. Shri Mataji was nominated

for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition
of her humanitarian work and revered
for her selfless and loving dedication to

for everyone to have that knowledge
of the roots within ourselves, within
our society and within human beings
as a whole. Sahaja Yoga allows the
individual to become his own guide
".

Shri Mataji has been twice nominated
for the Nobel Peace Price, has been
honored by the US Congress and has
received numerous honors and awards
in recognition of her contribution to
the peace, health and well being of
humandind.
